Meet Us

Karen Hanneman, M.A., CCC-SLP

I've been an SLP for for 13 years.  I received my education at UNK, UNL, and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.  Laura and I opened Heartland in 2003 and have been blessed to work with so many fabulous kids and their families over the years.  I love working with kids of all ages and abilities, but have a particular passion for serving kids on the Autism Spectrum.  My husband Shawn and I live in Weeping Water with our daughters Izzie and Abbie.  I love reading and traveling with my family.

Beth Brady, M.A., CCC-SLP

I'm a speech language pathologist with 13 years of specialized work with children and adults with hearing loss. I am an Omaha native, educated at UNL and University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I've partnered extensively with professionals at BoysTown National Research Hospital, Lincoln Public Schools, and other community professionals. The advanced technology and therapy techniques of today give children and their families unprecendented access to sound and the ability to achieve like never before. I'm honored to be a part of such an amazing process and am happy to offer Lincoln and area families a local aural rehabilitation choice.

Maureen Mattas, M.A., CCC-SLP

I have been practicing speech-language pathology for over thirty years. In my early career, I worked with adults in a rehab setting and taught at the university level. Once I began working exclusively with preschoolers in the public schools, I found my passion! I am committed to providing early intervention and also enjoy serving children of varied ages. I feel fortunate to be in such a fascinating field with a strong research base to influence current practices. Heartland offers families a great opportunity for children of all ages to improve their communication skills. I live in Lincoln and have 2 children, Chris and Katie. I enjoy reading, nature, travel, gardening, and fun times with family and friends.

Kristen Pfeil, OTD OTR/L

I graduated from Creighton University in 2002 with my clinical doctorate in occupational therapy. I started practicing in Portland, Oregon, working in a sensory integration clinic as well as Portland Public Schools. My husband and I moved back to Nebraska in 2005 and I have worked in several different pediatric settings including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), outpatient pediatric clinics, and school systems. My diversified experiences have allowed me to develop specialty knowledge in many areas of pediatric occupational therapy. My passion is serving children and their families to connect all children with their full potential. I am excited to bring occupational therapy services to Heartland. My husband and I have a daughter and boy-girl twins.
